Itagaki leaves Tecmo, suing left and right for past bonuses. Hopefully Microsoft will scoop him up, and in a few years we can look forward to Ninja Guyver and Alive or Dead fighting games. Or he may just retire into obscurity. Who knows? His last day is July 1st, leaving some time to either patch things up or convince others to join him wherever he leaves to.
Air Force looks to buy 300 PS3 units. For business or pleasure, you may wonder? My money’s on business, and am reminded of the PS2 being banned in China for fear it would be modded in to an ICBM-launching supercomputer. Doe sthe Air Force want to launch or research launching ICBMs? Time will tell…
Death of HD DVD. Time to mull it over and let it sink in… I was always for the new HD formats, more the HD DVD than Blu-ray. But Sony had deeper pockets or at least were more aggressive in getting the players into more homes.
The 360’s HD DVD’s player is now obsolete! I can always use mine as an external CD/DVD drive and to watch HD DVD movies I’ll pick up dirt cheap down the road. Maybe next year…
So it’s Fucking Konami Week! This year will be “Capcom Edition”, I suppose. Dust off something from the collection or pick up a newer game. I’m going with Killer 7, the PS2 version. After that, maybe the Maximo games? I’ve barely touched them and now’s as good as a time as any.
Devil May Cry 4 has a 22-24 minute install time to shave off 1-2 seconds per load (compared to the 360 version). This is more of a warning more than a news-worthy gem of information. I’d rather it be optional. Imagine the crestfallen look on your face to have waited 25 minutes to find out the game sucks. Odd thought: while the load times are only a second or two compared to the 360, what were they compared to when the game wasn’t installed? Because there’s no data to contradict, I’ll venture a guess that the install actually shaves off 25 seconds. That’s right.
Happy Something Week to you all! There’s good news and bad news.
Good news is that I actually accomplished something to improve the website. A fresh phpbb forum has been installed and is ready for me to skin it and start posting up a storm. Don’t bother yourself about registering or posting anything there. I don’t plan on doing that for at least another week. Skinning it… Maybe a month. I got other things to work on offline with school and writing and whatnot.
Which is sort of the bad news. I now have other, more laborious tasks to accomplish. Such is the thankless existance of a website admin- toiled with projects and upkeeps.
All day I’ve been checking out early feedback from various forums about the new release, Culdcept Saga. I’ve been looking forward to a new strategy game and the demo was quite enjoyable. Furthermore, I just renewed my Xbox Live subscription two days back. I needed a new drug, something besides Halo 3 and Team Fortress 2.
After school let out I dropped off my books at home and rode my bike to the local shopping center. My first stop was Target. It’s the closest to my house and I needed some loose meats for sandwiches and some new guitar picks. Nothing in the cases and the staff confirmed that it was actually to be released next week. Bummed, I got my foodstuffs and left.
The next best bet was the Best Buy on the opposite side of the mall. I asked around and the sales dude also said it was coming out next week. Well! Was the internet lying to me? If there were chaps saying they bought it earlier or Amazon shipped it the day before… Well what’s the deal here?
Which led me to my final store: the local Gamestop. I’m not exactly on the best of terms with them for reasons best not disclosed sober. I walked around the store and didn’t see a display copy. Nevertheless, I asked the guy (who was new) what new games came out for the 360 this week. Of course he mentioned Turok and Devil May Cry 4. Also mentioned Burnout Paradise came out last week… Thanks. I told him I was looking for a new game called Culdcept Saga and he lit up. He said they had a copy, and had a look on his face if he passed over it earlier in the day looking for different 360 game. I was so happy I even threw down $5 on a Fallout 3 preorder.
Granted Culdcept wasn’t the biggest of games and the sales associate was obviously new to all things video game. However, in order to get this game, hitting up the dedicated game store was the most sensible thing to do. Even when the store is sloppy and the staff clueless, I still walk out with the game I want the day it’s released. I’m sure that if I waited a week or two, the other stores might have got a few copies, but I’m not that patient. My only other option is online retailers, like Frys or Amazon, but it’s so impersonal.
Anywho…
Picked up my game o’the month for February. Previous months were The Orange Box for January, Gripshift in December, Call of Duty 4 in November and Front Mission DS last October. …I really should wait this long between updates.
Just a quick posting. I’m a free man again! I’ve paid my dues time after time and all that. Starting a few days back, I began working on the site, and made some good headway. There’s still a few days left, but everything should be done by… the 10th or so.
In the time off, I came to realize how important the site was to me, and what a fool I was to neglect it for something as fleeting as a bachelor’s degree. Also! It was one of my New Year’s resolutions to begin posting here agin. So no news links today, but a simple “hello” and shifty return to the quietness behind the scenes.
New! Improved sidebars, new FAQ page! To come! Two new page types and forums. I’ll be posting more pictures, because they’re cooler than just text. And believe it or not, I’m planning on throwing up a game review or two… before the end of the year. I won’t promise this. Another hardware review would be more my style.
